SUSAN HARRIS is a senior attorney with expertise, helped extensive training and a wealth of experience in the art of mediation and arbitration. She has practised law in Gauteng Province since 1984 with a major emphasis in family law, labour law, the administration of deceased estates and the drafting of wills.

Her training in mediation and arbitration includes courses at the CCMA and the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) and with

Charles Cohen (ADRASA). She is currently a member of the South African Association of Mediators (SAAM).

An alumnis of the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), she graduated cum laude with an LLM in 1994. She has lectured at the Practical Legal Training School and at the WITS Law School. She has extensive experience mediating for the CCMA, the Bargaining Council for the Motor Industry and in private practice. She also does voluntary mediations for Family Life Centre (FAMSA) and pro bono work for Probono.org.

Her expertise lies in being able to recognize what the disputing parties are really saying to each other, and then assisting them to negotiate their way around obstacles that seemingly cannot be overcome. She uses a broad range of techniques in guiding disputants towards a settlement.

You will deal directly with SUSAN HARRIS. She is not a broker for other mediators or arbitrators and does not sub-contract work out to other mediators or arbitrators, although she may work with a co-mediator or arbitrators .

SUSAN HARRIS believes that mediation is an ideal solution for most clients who wish to resolve their disputes without litigating. However, should the disputing parties feel that mediation has not worked, she offers an alternative of arbitrating or litigating disputes.
